B-BBEE Points Calculator

Your B-BBEE level is determined by total scorecard points across five elements totalling up to 118 points. The total maps to a level from 1 (best, 100+ points) to 8 (minimum compliant, 30-39 points). Below 30 points is Non-Compliant.

Ownership, Skills Development, and Enterprise & Supplier Development are priority elements. If any scores below 40% of its maximum, your level is automatically discounted by one. For example, scoring 0 on Ownership (below 10 points) drops you from Level 3 to Level 4.

An affidavit is a sworn statement used by EMEs (under R10M) and qualifying QSEs (51%+ black-owned), commissioned at no cost by a Commissioner of Oaths. A certificate is issued by a SANAS-accredited verification agency after formal assessment — required for QSEs below 51% and all Generic enterprises. Both valid for 12 months.

Every 12 months. Most government tenders require a valid (unexpired) certificate or affidavit at submission time. Plan renewal at least 4-6 weeks before expiry to avoid gaps that could disqualify your tender submissions.

Under the PPPFA, tenders up to R50M use the 80/20 system (20 points for B-BBEE) and above R50M use 90/10 (10 points). A Level 1 contributor gets full preference points. The difference between Level 1 and Level 4 can be 8 points — often enough to win or lose a tender.

Yes. JVs can obtain a Consolidated B-BBEE Certificate by combining scores weighted by each partner's percentage participation. Common in construction and large service contracts.
