How long does tender evaluation take in South Africa?

Evaluation and adjudication timelines depend on tender value and the organ of state:

  • Bid Evaluation Committee (BEC) — 10–21 working days after close for most tenders.
  • Bid Adjudication Committee (BAC) — adds 5–15 working days.
  • Accounting Officer approval — another 5–10 working days.
  • SCM Committee (for high-value awards above ~R10m) — can add 30+ days.

Total from close to award: typically 30–60 calendar days for an 80/20 tender, 60–90 for a 90/10, and sometimes longer for complex awards. Your bid must remain valid (usually 90 days from close) through this period — see procurement timelines.
